FNF – Ferrous non ferrous

With the worldwide volume of scrap processed increasingly sourced from consumer and light industrial waste streams, the percentage of valuable non ferrous metals and recyclable hydrocarbons (polymer) in feed materials has dramatically increased. This trend, coupled with ever increasing waste minimisation and environment protection legislation in developed nations, has driven the need for complicated, integrated non ferrous recovery plants. Danieli Lynxs has been at the forefront of this technology for more than 20 years, delivery both on & off-line recovery plants to suit individual customer requirements.
When a new shredder ferrous line is configured with air separation prior to magnet separation, the non ferrous metals are contained in two side streams. The shredder light fraction (SLF) is solid material separated out from the air flow by a cyclone. This material contains small and predominantly flat fragments of both ferrous & non ferrous materials. The shredder heavy residue (SHR) is the non-magnetic material that falls from the primary magnetic separation section of the plant. For sites where the ferrous mass flow rate is greater than 160 tonnes per hour, the magnetic separation section is placed before the air system and the shredder light fraction (SLF) and shredder heavy residue (SHR) are combined.

Danieli Lynxs non ferrous recovery plants incorporate five principal characteristics:
> Volumetric flow rate control
> Material fragment screening
> Magnetic based removal of tramp ferrous material
> Ejection of aluminium and other effected metals by way of eddy current separator
> Sensor based fragment identification coupled to highly focused air jet ejection from the material stream. Increasingly, new technology presents the option to extend the separation process to individual alloy discrimination by way of chemical composition identification. 3-D imaging systems enable insulated copper wire (ICW) fragments to be separated, particular from sensor sorted stainless steel fractions. In conjunction with specialist separator manufacturers, Danieli Lynxs can now offer plastic polymer recovery as a separate side process. Due to the value of metals that can be recovered, all new shredder plants invariably incorporate non ferrous recovery plants. Wherever practical, the preferred solution will involve an off-line solution being developed. Whilst the main shredder ferrous line is primarily designed based upon its mass flow rate, effective separation and recovery plants require careful control of the volumetric flow rate in order to achieve a mono layer of fragments at the point of material ejection (eddy current separator) or identification (sensor based equipment).
